Bigcommerce Adds Pinterest Rich Pins to Enable Merchants to Increase Brand Visibility and Drive More Web Traffic

Bigcommerce, the ecommerce platform of choice for fast-growing brands, today announced the general availability of Pinterest Rich Pins for Bigcommerce stores, equipping tens of thousands of online businesses to better promote their products on Pinterest, a visual discovery and bookmarking tool.

Pinterest has quickly emerged as a priority for ecommerce businesses looking to reach its highly-engaged audience of consumers who use the site to ‘pin’ their favorite products and content. According to industry research conducted by Visual Critical1, 49 percent of customers who pin a product are already considering purchasing it, with more than 70 percent of those surveyed stating that they were more likely to purchase an item after pinning it.

Rich Pins are a native Pinterest feature that allows Pins to retain relevant information such as price, product availability and a store URL pointing to where the item can be purchased. Rich Pins also provide merchants the ability to:

  • Make it easy for people to pin products from a store’s website. With Rich Pins, when people pin from a Bigcommerce merchant's site, the Pins that are added to Pinterest automatically have more useful product information, like price, and availability.

  • Notify pinners about price changes. Automatically trigger Pinterest notifications about product price changes in Bigcommerce stores for anyone that has pinned or re-pinned the product, leading to increased sales.

“Since enabling Rich Pins through Bigcommerce we’ve already seen a 50 percent increase in Pinterest traffic, as well as a bump in revenue,” said Scott Rees, vice president of marketing at RealSlidingHardware.com, makers of quality barn door hardware. “This is a fantastic feature for any online business looking to elevate its brand and tap into the Pinterest community — it could not have been easier to set up.”

“Rich Pins are a powerful opportunity for online businesses to improve brand visibility and drive more traffic to their stores,” said Tim Schulz, senior vice president of product for Bigcommerce. “We’ve already seen an immediate impact with merchants averaging 38 percent more traffic from Pinterest after enabling Rich Pins. This speaks volumes about both the purchasing power of the Pinterest community and the importance of social marketing.”

Rich Pins are immediately available and supported on all Pinterest-enabled Bigcommerce themes. A full list of supported themes and more information about configuring Rich Pins can be found on the Rich Pins support page. Additionally, merchants can download Bigcommerce’s just released e-book Free Guide: Selling With Pinterest.
