AUSTIN, Texas – March 3, 2020 – BigCommerce, a leading open SaaS ecommerce platform for fast-growing and established brands, today announced tech industry veteran Ellen Siminoff as the latest addition to its Board of Directors. Siminoff brings more than 25 years’ leadership and board experience to her new role with BigCommerce, having served on the boards of Zynga, Mozilla, and Austin-based Solarwinds, among others.
“The momentum and energy driving BigCommerce to now-scale growth is infectious. When they asked me to join the Board, I could not have been more excited or flattered,” said Siminoff.
Most recently, Siminoff spent 12 years as CEO of Shmoop, an educational publishing company that she co-founded in 2007. During her tenure, Siminoff grew the business’ user base to include more than 16 million monthly learners across more than 1,200 schools and districts. Prior to Shmoop, Siminoff ran Efficient Frontier as the company’s president and CEO, turning the search engine marketing company into one of the 25 most valuable privately-held companies in Silicon Valley at the time. Siminoff began her career as a founding executive and senior vice president at Yahoo!, where she held a number of leadership roles in business development, corporate development, and the small business and entertainment business units.
“Ellen brings an outstanding combination of board experience and CEO leadership of multiple successful internet companies. We will also benefit from her ecommerce knowledge stretching back to the pioneering days of Yahoo! Stores,” said Brent Bellm, chief executive officer at BigCommerce. “Even more than her resume, we were drawn to Ellen’s reputation as a whip smart, likeable leader, and her eagerness to support BigCommerce and its success. We know that she will make a great addition to our team of world-class advisors.”
With her appointment, Siminoff joins a Board of Directors that includes Bellm; Larry Bohn, General Catalyst; Steve Murray, Revolution Growth; Don Clarke, Plex Systems, Inc.; Jeff Richards, GGV Capital; and Jack McDonald, Upland Software, who joined the board late last year.
